Following the successful East Africa Future Leaders Challenge hosted in Nairobi—which brought together 15 universities and colleges from across the region—the University of Dar es Salaam has committed to expanding its collaboration with the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre – Eastern Africa (GTRCMC–EA), hosted at Kenyatta University.
Proposed Areas of Collaboration
The University of Dar es Salaam and GTRCMC–EA have identified the following priority areas for partnership:
- Research and Policy Collaboration – Joint research on tourism resilience, sustainability, and crisis management within the East African context.
- Staff and Student Exchange Programmes – Facilitating academic and cultural exchange to enhance skills and broaden perspectives.
- Joint Communication and Publications – Co-authoring research papers, policy briefs, and case studies for regional and global dissemination.
- Joint Capacity Building, Training and Workshops – Including hosting study tours and capacity-building sessions for faculty and students.
- Online Teaching – Leveraging virtual platforms to deliver joint courses and guest lectures.
- Joint Curriculum Development – Designing tourism and hospitality programmes that integrate resilience and sustainability principles.
April 2025 Flagship Visit
As part of this enhanced collaboration, GTRCMC–EA will host over 100 students and educators from the University of Dar es Salaam for a one-week programme in April 2025. The visit will:
- Include tours and collaborative sessions at the University of Nairobi, Strathmore University, Kenyatta University, Boma International Hospitality College, Utalii College, and United States International University.
- Offer opportunities for networking, best-practice sharing, and exploring additional collaboration with other Kenyan higher education institutions.
- Engage the visiting team as part of the broader GTRCMC–EA researchers’ network, strengthening joint academic output.
Regional Impact
This collaboration is expected to:
- Deepen tourism resilience research and training in Eastern Africa.
- Promote mobility and cross-border academic partnerships.
- Foster a stronger, regionally integrated approach to tourism education and crisis preparedness.
The partnership represents a significant step in GTRCMC–EA’s mission to expand its regional footprint and influence, aligning with its strategic goal of building a robust network of tourism resilience experts and practitioners across Eastern Africa.
