The Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre – Eastern Africa (GTRCMC-EA) participated in the 5th International Staff Week under the Erasmus+ KA171 programme, held at the University of Crete in Greece from 25 to 29 May 2026.
The event was hosted at the University of Crete’s Gallos Campus in Rethymno. It was organised within the Erasmus+ KA171 Consortium for International Credit Mobility of Greek Higher Education Institutions, coordinated by the University of Piraeus.
The Staff Week provided a platform for international academic dialogue, professional networking and the exchange of best practices among higher education institutions.
Focus of the Staff Week
The theme of the 2026 Staff Week was:
“Digital Transformation, Environment and Climate Change, and Education.”
The programme brought together higher education professionals and academics from European and international partner institutions. Participating institutions included the University of Piraeus, the University of Crete, Kenyatta University, Kyambogo University in Uganda and universities from Armenia.
Participants examined different approaches through which universities can promote digital transformation, environmental responsibility and sustainable institutional operations.
Key activities
The programme included the following activities:
Knowledge exchange
Participants shared institutional internationalisation strategies and discussed the use of modern digital tools in higher education.
Interactive workshops
Participants worked together to develop practical solutions to challenges associated with digital transformation and the sustainable operation of universities.
Cultural and historical exploration
The programme also included visits to important cultural and research institutions in Greece. Participants visited the Archaeological Site of Knossos Palace in Heraklion and the Institute for Mediterranean Studies. They also took part in a cultural and culinary experience at Arolithos Traditional Village.
Kenyatta University’s participation
Three members of staff represented Kenyatta University during the programme and contributed through presentations and group discussions:

- Ms Adelaide Momanyi – Senior Administrator, GTRCMC-EA
- Mr Anthony Kang’ara – Assistant Registrar, CIPC
The programme strengthened collaboration between participating institutions and created opportunities for future academic cooperation, international mobility and knowledge exchange.
At the conclusion of the Staff Week, participants reaffirmed their commitment to advancing internationalisation, innovation and strategic global partnerships in higher education.
