The GTRCMC-EA is committed to fulfilling its roles of developing, producing, and generating toolkits, assisting with preparedness, management, and recovery from disruptions or crises that impact tourism and threaten economies and livelihoods, and developing guidelines and policies to handle the recovery process following a disaster. The Centre, which is situated at Kenyatta University aims at targeting five major thematic areas therefore aiding the tourism sector in East Africa region recover from disruptions or crises that affect tourism and threaten economies and livelihoods. These thematic areas include as illustrated below:

GTRCMC – EA thematic focus

The Centre thematic focuses among others include:

  1. Tourism Climatic and Seismic Resilience (Drought, Floods, Landslides, Sea level rise)
  2. Tourism Pandemic /Epidemic Resilience (Cholera, Ebola, Rift Valley fever, Coronavirus)
  3. Tourism Security /Cyber Security Resilience (terrorism, Poaching, Cyber attacks etc)
  4. Tourism Entrepreneurial Resilience (Training, Mentoring etc)
  5. Economic Disruptions (Elections, Technologies etc)
  6. Emerging challenges facing tourism industry.

The GTRCMC-EA is able to target and provide practical, real world solutions under the thematic focus areas through networking on knowledge development and sharing with national, relevant regional and international entities providing a synergy of knowledge, ideas, and research fostered by collaborations.
