Dr Albert Kariuki, Director of the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre Eastern Africa (GTRCMC-EA), participated in the Council of Governors (CoG) Development Partners Engagement Meeting on Strengthening County Wildlife Conservation, Management and Sustainable Tourism Development, held at Delta House, Nairobi.
The engagement brought together representatives from the Council of Governors, development partners, government agencies and other key stakeholders to explore collaborative approaches to strengthening wildlife conservation and promoting sustainable tourism development across Kenya’s counties.
The meeting focused on identifying opportunities for partnerships that will support county governments in advancing wildlife conservation and management within their respective jurisdictions. Participants also discussed strategies for enhancing sustainable tourism while safeguarding the country’s natural heritage for future generations.
Tourism destination resilience was highlighted as a key component of sustainable tourism development. Discussions emphasized the importance of addressing challenges such as climate change, safety and security, public health emergencies and other emerging risks that continue to shape the future of wildlife conservation and tourism.
