Promoting Innovation and Technology in Agriculture and Trade

Exhibition

Digitizing Agrotourism in Kenya

Class: The Best University Stand and The Best Stand Embracing ICT Systems.

This exhibition explores innovative ways in which ArcGIS could enable the promotion of agrotourism as an emerging product across the country. It will also share opportunities in connecting the products with the international market, through business connections between Kenya and USA. Agrotourism is a blended mixture of two industries Agriculture and Tourism. It is the practice of touring farms and often participating in farming activities. Kenya is renowned for the export of quality products among them tea, coffee, flowers, nuts, vegetables, fruits, meat and leather products. Visitors to Kenya have a chance to visit farms and see firsthand where the products they love come from. The abundance of natural produce in Kenya, combined with the rich variety of cultures and traditions, offer a unique opportunity for an agricultural adventure. The tours could offer the visitors an opportunity to witness how the crops are grown, harvested, processed, packed and offer an opportunity to purchase the products.

Digitizing Agrotourism in Kenya Exhibition 2022

Digitizing tourism products and experiences in Kenya

  • Farm Tour Experiences – Export products – Tea / Coffee / Flowers / Horticulture

Use technologies to visit export products plantations and sample Kenya’s blends as you learn the art of perfect extraction. For more information see https://arcg.is/1DrXnz– Farm Tours

  • Digitizing Emerging Technologies and Innovations in Agriculture for Tourism

The purpose is to showcase how ArcGIS can promote technologies that are revolutionizing farming techniques across the country to potential domestic tourists e.g. package tours to eg Plantech in Naivasha to capacity-build farmers (domestic education tourists) from across the country.  Plantech is a unique fully digitized seedling nursery (one of its kind in Africa).  The 800,000 small-scale farmers in Kenya could form the initial target market. • Kenyan Cuisines

Use ArcGIS to tour the best Kenya flavors and spices. For more information see https://arcg.is/XDOD1– Kenyan Cuisines

GTRCMC-EA is currently exhibiting at the Nairobi International Trade Fair from 26th September to 2nd October 2022. The idea is to showcase the Use of Technology for Agrotourism in Kenya. Through use of ArcGIS mapping and storytelling, agricultural practices are vividly described. The content is shared with domestic, regional and international tourists.
This is part of what has made KU to be ranked second place in the Best Stand Embracing ICT Systems.
